When you’re picking out infrared lamps for a bathroom, the IPX5 waterproof rating is the first thing you’ll see. It’s important—it keeps the electrics safe from splashes—but it’s not the part that actually makes your morning comfortable. The real trick is getting the wattage to match the size of your room. If you go too heavy, you’ll turn your bathroom into a sauna and waste a ton of electricity. Go too light? You’ll be shivering in a towel while the lamp struggles to keep up.
Finding the “Sweet Spot” for Power
Think of it this way: the smaller the room, the less muscle you need. For a tiny powder room, something between 250W and 400W is usually plenty. It’s a gentle warmth that doesn’t overwhelm the space. If you’ve got a medium-sized bathroom, you’re looking at 600W or 800W. Now, if you have a massive master bath or those fancy high ceilings, you’ll need 1000W or more. A Little Warning on Installation

If you tuck a high-power lamp into a tight, recessed ceiling spot without any airflow, you’re basically cooking the wiring. It’ll burn out way sooner than it should. Just make sure there’s enough clearance for the heat to escape.
Don’t Trip Your Breaker
Before you start wiring, do a quick bit of math on your total load. Four 800W lamps might seem fine, but that’s 3.2kW pulling from one circuit. Your breaker might not love that. A better way to handle this? Use a zoned control system. That way, you can flick on one lamp for a quick warm-up while you brush your teeth, and only fire up the whole array when you really want that full-body heat. It’s easier on your electric bill and much smarter for your home.
